OCCF Supports Assistance League of Las Vegas with Donations of School Supplies and Backpacks for Operation School Bell
Skye Canyon residents have a generous spirit. So much so, that they helped collectively gather and donate more than 1,100 school supply items in support of the Assistance League Las Vegas’ Operation School Bell program. To make the donation even bigger, the Skye Canyon Co-Op gave nearly 300 backpacks filled with back-to-school supplies valued at $5,000.
Recently, the Skye Canyon team, in tandem with the Olympia Companies Charitable Foundation, had the opportunity to drop off the donations, tour the Assistance League of Las Vegas Operation School Bell facility, and officially present this year’s check and donation for $150,000 raised from the 2023 Governor’s Black Tie.
Since 2001, donations to the Assistance League from the annual Governor’s Black Tie have reached nearly $1.2 million and have helped more than 9,000 disadvantaged children in the Clark County School District receive proper clothing and supplies which can boost self-esteem leading to improved success in school and in the future.
It’s well established that providing children with the right school supplies is crucial for their educational journey. Extensive research demonstrates the profound impact of appropriate school materials on various aspects of a child’s academic experience. From enhancing grades and fostering creativity to shaping positive attitudes towards learning, improved behavior, and strengthened self-image, the right supplies can be a catalyst for success in school.
