Chalk & Cheers 2024: Art, Community, and Creativity Under the Desert Skye

Skye Canyon recently welcomed residents and visitors alike to its eighth annual Chalk & Cheers event, an inspiring day filled with art, food, and family fun. Each year, this celebration brings together the community in a colorful explosion of creativity and pride, showcasing the unique artistry and talent of Skye Canyon’s chalk artists.

A Day of Fun and Family

This year’s event was nothing short of magical, as hundreds of families gathered to enjoy the sunshine and a range of exciting activities. From face painting to a pumpkin patch, and from spooky slime stations to rock climbing walls, Chalk & Cheers had something for everyone. Young and old alike could be seen cheering, laughing, and savoring each moment, creating the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable day outdoors.

Art Inspired by "Under the Desert Skye: Nature's Palette"

At the heart of Chalk & Cheers was the chalk art competition, where over 30 talented artists came together to showcase their interpretations of this year’s theme: “Under the Desert Skye: Nature's Palette.” From sprawling landscapes to intricate portraits of desert wildlife, each piece captured the rugged beauty of the desert and captivated families strolling along to admire the artwork.

The competition was fierce, but it was Joseph Christensen’s incredible animal illustration that took home the first-place award in the professional category for an astonishing fifth year in a row. Christensen’s work left a lasting impression on viewers, who marveled at the attention to detail and vivid colors he brought to life on the pavement.

Food, Music, and Community Spirit

Of course, no Skye Canyon event would be complete without fantastic food and live entertainment! Guests enjoyed music and performances by School of Rock, a community favorite, as well as delicious offerings from local food trucks such as Fast Eddie's Burgers, Lucky Cat BBQ, Twisted Gelato, Flip N' Grill, and Horse Trailer Hideout. Families mingled, sampled tasty treats, and shared smiles while savoring the delightful flavors of the day.

Supporting Local Artisans and Raising Funds for CORE

Adding to the festive atmosphere was the vendor village, where over 30 local artisans displayed their creative talents. From hand-crafted jewelry to intricate macrame, the variety on display gave attendees a chance to support local artisans and pick up one-of-a-kind pieces to take home.

In the spirit of giving back, Chalk & Cheers raised an impressive $8,000 for CORE, the event's benefitting charity, which supports critical health and wellness programs within our community. This heartwarming contribution underscores the Skye Canyon community’s commitment to coming together for the greater good.

A Celebration of Art, Family, and Friendship

Chalk & Cheers 2024 was more than just an art event—it was a celebration of everything that makes Skye Canyon special: art, family, friendship, and community pride. As families left with smiles, new memories, and even a few art pieces to cherish, the sense of unity was unmistakable.

Here’s to another year of creativity, connection, and community spirit at Chalk & Cheers! We look forward to seeing even more masterpieces—and familiar faces—under the desert sky in 2025.
